Friday night saw the first showdown between the Circa82 League and the Crown League. The top two divisions paired up and the bottom two divisions paired up. In all, a decent turnout of 25 XBLNers in what was a pretty exciting night of Multiplayer action.
The Circa vs Crown fixtures are going to be another mainstay along with the forthcoming M-League season. Each time they play, their results will be tallied up in a league table to see who is the best league, Crown or Circa. Right now, its the Circa82 League by a landslide, with both the top and bottom tiers winning the game series 2-1.
A mixed bag in the top tier, with Circa edging out two closely fought victories, but getting obliterated in the second match 7-3, but their class shone through as they secured a 1-0 victory in the decider. Although, if you look at the Crown League Top Tier team, you have guys like Rising Star, ARightTouch85, Barndan, Buncinator to name a few, all stalwarts of the M-League, top 10 rated in the entire world, but yet they failed to inspire their team to victory. Questions have to be asked of these guys, although there are rumblings that the only Crown Championship player that turned out, had an absolute nightmare, but thats down to the guys involved to decide.
With Medics leading the Circa Top Tier, it was always gonna be tough for the Crown League, especially with the midfield talents of Beckowitz (another top 10 M-Leaguer) coupled with their captain and the striking talents of Craig1687, Ghooey and Jaminator. Whats more, the Circa League had 8 players, which is an awkward number to contend with, what with the Any player only being able to control 75% of the defence, so again, this should have been a cake walk for the Crown League.
The bottom tier saw ONLY 3(!?!?!?) Circa Division 1 or Division 2 members turn out, with their numbers being made up with non-leaguers Grumbo and Nickpop. Nickpop it seems has never played a football game in his life and it clearly showed throughout the game, with team loudmouth DavoteK telling team captain Grumbo to put him out of the way on the wing after Nick cost the Circa league a couple of goals in the first game. That first game saw the Crown League score for fun in the first half, with the Circa League pulling one back in the second half. PesAssassin nailing the man of the match in what can only be deemed a rout.
Davo and Grumbo, donning their shifty goggles, delved into the tactics and put Chopper Milster into the holding midfield role, while Davo putting himself as the target man up front for Devilshaircut to play on the wing and nip in on the flicks. Grumbo, with no Nickpop near his defence, was resolute throughout the two remaining games. Devilshaircut with some precise finishing (and some not so precise) to finish top scorer for the Circa League, Milster bagging himself 2 yellow cards and his most sought after red cards, Nickpop actually scored the goal of all three game, but did say later he didn't have a clue what he was doing and thought he pressed the pass button when he scored a 35yrder. Naturally, DavoteK bagged two man of the match performances in the 2nd and 3rd games and said later that he "led them all to glory, its what he does", what with him being the greatest M-League player of all time, in the world, ever.
The Crown League had a decent (ish) team, and couldn't have wished for a better start to the encounter, but the 2nd and 3rd games, they were tactically outclassed having no answer for the game plan that Grumbo and Davo laid out. Couple that with Doctor Aces notching up the most offsides in the history of the entire f*cking universe, they stood pretty much no chance. But in saying that, I wouldn't say it was his fault for being offside, just superior defending from Grumbo.
In Closing, a great night of Multiplayer action, and a little bit of a twist on the usual M-League encounters we have, and a nice way to wet the appetite for that mouth-watering M-League season. Hopefully we see a few more people turn out for the next league showdown, especially from the lower tiers.
